Valenciennes 2013/14 away - Maor Melikson #27 (Ligue 1)

Match worn Valenciennes 2013/14 away shirt, worn by Israeli midfielder Maor Melikson #27 in the Ligue 1 away match vs. OGC Nice away on September 22, 2013 at the Allianz Riviera stadium in Nice. Melikson started the match and was substituted in the 60th minute as Valenciennes lost the match 4-1. This match was a special occasion as it was the very first match played the Allianz Riviera, Nice's brand-new 35,000 seat stadium, built to be used during the Euro 2016 tournament.

This was the worst season in modern history for Valenciennes as they finished in 19th place at the end of the season and were relegated to Ligue 2, where they have remained since. Melikson made 38 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 2 goals (both from penalties) and assisting 5 goals. After only 1.5 years at the club, Melikson returned home to Israel the following summer, re-joining Hapoel Be'er Sheva, where he made his name as a player.

As a mark of celebration of the club's 100th anniversary in 2013, this beautiful shirt features a unique number design on the back, which is a colorful composition of faces of their fans, as well as the label "1913 - 2013". This is my second shirt from the French league (after Ben Sahar Auxerre 2011/12) and so far my only shirt made by Uhlsport, which sponsored Valenciennes from 2011 to 2016.
